One of my favorite things to do is photograph extended families.

Thankfully, my area of this earth brings lots of extended families into town for vacation. The Christmas holiday season as well as New Years is the most busiest time for my business each year. I always say that during the months of October through the second week in January, I’m a horrible wife and a horrible mother. The busy time of the season rocks my world each year and each year I realize once again that I can not do it all. 🙂

With the chaos comes the honor of meeting so many great families from around the country and around the world. I’m so grateful for the clients who book with me and allow me the opportunity to capture and document their family memories while they’re in Naples/Marco Island/Ft. Myers/Bonita Beach/Sanibel Island.  Southwest Florida is a tourists playground this time of the year and I absolutely love it.

With each session I do, I love to do a couple of shots with the whole family that are a bit more relaxed, a lot more candid, with lots of genuine smiles and raw moments as I like to say. This particular family is from Canada and has some family members who reside in New York as well. They were all together here in Naples for the Christmas holiday and booked me to capture their family memories while in town.  It’s this size of a group whom really benefits from these candid or more relaxed images. I commonly call them the “family huddle” images. I remind them to pretend like they love each other for the day (lol!) and we forego the perfectly posed hands, legs, arms, angles, etc. and come in for a tight, messy, but oh so fabulous, family love shot. For a few minutes, I direct my focus on a candid moment that is raw and genuine rather than a perfectly posed set of shots. This group was a blast and not only nailed that family love but gave me great smiles to boot. Here are a couple of their “family huddle” shots.

As your photographer, it is my job to “gel” with you enough that you feel comfortable letting your guards down and just releasing the real you as a whole family unit. Traditional posed shots are great but it is the “family huddle” type images that will get you laughing and really smiling when you look back on this time together.  I want each of my families to throw their stress out the window and show up together with smiles that look as though you’re all auditioning for a dental ad. 🙂

At the end of our time together, one of my most prized moments as a photographer is when I physically see and also hear the sighs of relief when you realize how easy that shoot just was. It’s at that moment that I know I have fully succeeded in making some crazy cool memories for you that were so easy and natural that it was ridiculous. I’m not up for the stuffy sessions that are forced and completely fake. Your family dynamic has a uniqueness that is all its own and a good photographer will capture that. I will capture that.

Many thanks to all of my clients that I got the chance to meet or work with again during this holiday season. I appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you for giving me the chance to do what I love.

XOXO, Angie
